The building industry is a sector of activity where work accidents and drudgery are higher than average. It is becoming more and more difficult to recruit qualified and motivated personnel, as most young people are turning away from this sector. This is therefore an area where robotics can make a significant contribution, by protecting staff and taking on the most arduous tasks. Robotics can also bring a better quality and an optimum respect of the plans / BIM models.
However, robotics is still rare in the building industry. There are two main reasons for this:
– a construction site is a very complex place for a robot, it is swarming with obstacles that move according to the evolution of the work, stakeholders from several trades that cross, very varied types of interventions … This requires a highly developed Artificial Intelligence and a mechanical capacity adaptable to all situations.
– Robotics engineers are very much in demand in the industrial environment, which they have known well for decades and where there is still a lot to do. Few robotics companies have therefore focused on the needs of the building industry.
At Robotics Place, we decided to follow the impetus given by the FFC Robotique at the national level to develop specific solutions for the building industry. We have signed a partnership agreement with the FFB Occitanie in order to identify specific needs for which the building professionals are in demand and to set up development projects to create robots / cobots that will meet this demand.
