PAL France is a French cutting-edge research company established in Toulouse since 2020.
PAL France is part of PAL Robotics, a European leader in personal and service robotics, based in Barcelona, Spain and launched in 2004. The company works on the design of advanced robot control software, distributes and adapts PAL Robotics robots and their technologies to better meet the needs of the French market.
To date, the PAL France team is focusing its work on bipedal locomotion. More specifically on the dynamism of walking: movements exploiting the physical capabilities of the robot, how to make walking robust in the face of external disturbances, being able to move on non-flat surfaces, "multi-contact" locomotion: the use of hands during movement if it proves useful (for example, by leaning on a wall to maintain balance, using a handrail to climb a staircase, etc.).
Overall, all these points contribute to a common long-term goal: to obtain a robot capable of moving autonomously and safely in any semi-structured environment. "Semi-structured" refers to an environment designed for humans that is not entirely controlled, such as the interior of a house or factory; unlike "unstructured," which is the exterior, such as a forest or gravel, which presents different challenges for the robot's locomotion.
